Consultation Process
Workshops and participatory consultations were held in 41 fishing communities with the aim of understanding the different realities and needs in order to integrate them into the process.

Using the co-management process as its methodology, the project has a participatory approach, always integrating interested parties (Government, fishing communities, civil society and the private sector) in decision-making.
The participatory approach, in the various phases of the consultation process, allows for greater acceptance and collaboration during the implementation of marine protected areas.
Understanding local needs creates an atmosphere of alternatives that helps reduce the impact that these communities may feel from the creation of MPAs.
